Telluride native Lucas Foster is on the verge of something big. Photo: US Snowboard Team/Mike Dawsey
Lucas Foster is the newest member of the US Snowboard Team’s Pro halfpipe squad, but not so long ago he was climbing the ranks of the snowboard circuit -- cutting his teeth at the Southwest Colorado Series, scoring some Rev Tour starts (and podiums) and working his way from Rookie Team member to Pro team member with a career-best 6th place World Cup finish at the 2021 Grand Prix. And at 21 years old, he’s the youngest and the newest member of USASA’s Executive Board.
We got a chance to catch up with Lucas and reminisce about his days as an up-and-coming USASA grom, the benefits of being resourceful and why it’s important to give back to USASA and snowboarding while he’s still actively competing and a change maker in the sport.

Eighteen months ago, Inland Northwest Series freeskier, Elyse Byrd won the 2020 Woodward Progression Award and was beyond hyped to head to Woodward Copper for a week of freeskiing, airbag jumping and foam pit flipping. Due to Covid-19, 2020 summer camp turned in to 2021 summer camp and despite the full year of anticipation, Woodward Copper lived up to the hype, leaving Elyse with a new bag of tricks and a renewed stoke for the 2021/22 USASA season. Oh and Elyse also managed to earn herself a new pair of K2 skis in the Woodward Jump Jam and was the GoPro Award Winner for session 8 while getting to ski alongside some of her heroes in the sport like Joss Christensen, Alex Ferreira, Colby Stevenson, and Alex Hall.

The USASA is proud to host the 2nd Annual USASA Golf Classic Sept 17th at McHenry Country Club!
This fun charity golf event helps support kids in sport, the development of future athletes on the world stage, and the education of coaches, judges, and officials. Participation in sports has been shown to be a critical component in the development of today’s youth. USASA events create a positive environment to help develop self-esteem, encourage problem-solving, teach teamwork and good sportsmanship, and build confidence in young people.
In this current environment, nonprofit organizations need your support more than ever, the USASA included.
Your support will help fund programs such as:
*Membership subsidies for our youngest competitors
*Membership discounts for our US Active Military and Veterans
*Education development programs for coaches, judges, and officials

To provide the most secure environments for all USASA participants all adult members are required to hold a US Ski & Snowboard membership in the same membership category they are represented in at USASA. U.S. Ski & Snowboard will notify USASA once background screen and SafeSport adult compliance requirements are met and your USASA membership will become active. These compliance standards provide National Governing Body oversight for USASA adult members and allow for a more transparent, secure, and safe validation system for all.

Thank you for participating in the 2020-2021 USASA competition season. This year had its share of challenges, and we are grateful for your commitment and flexibility in working through them with us. Together we wore masks, we socially distanced, and we helped keep our communities safe. It was unfortunate that we were not able to host our USASA National Championships for the second year, but we now know that keeping our communities and their families safe was the right call. Looking forward, we are excited to make the 2022 National Championships one of the most amazing events ever!

The 2021 USASA Annual Silent Auction is all about our USASA community. It’s a celebration of our athletes, our perseverance, and the light at the end of the tunnel.
For the second year in a row, the USASA National Championships have taken a back seat to the pandemic. Through this experience, we have proved that we are flexible and together we can rally around the regional communities of USASA. To culminate the experiences we have shared we are launching our second annual USASA Silent Auction to celebrate what we have all been through and set the stage for a brighter future for USASA.
The funds raised in this Annual Silent Auction will support the Mission and Vision of USASA. We have several new initiatives in light of the past season and the need to provide additional support to our regional series who have been greatly impacted by COVID-19.
