 Series Background: 

 Middle Earth Snow Series (MESS) is the original and first grassroots snowboarding and freeski contest series in Michigan. Many top riders have come out of our series-Danny Davis, Kyle Mack, and Karly Shorr-all are now on the Pro level circuit and they continue to support their original home competitive series by supporting our competitions regionally and staying connected to us!   Middle Earth continues to be the development series of young snowboarders and freestyle skiers by providing fair, fun, & superior managed events. !

Middle Earth Snow Series continues to bring you freestyle ski and snowboard events at the Top Rated Resorts in all of Michigan: Boyne Mountain, Boyne Highlands, Cannonsburg, and Hawk Island Snow Park E. Lansing, MI

All riders are expected to know the rulebook and follow the riders code of conduct at all times!  The rulebook can be accessed on the home page of USASA

All new members and returning members should receive a Transworld snow or ski magazine 1 year subscription and sticker packs!

Competitor Information

The Middle Earth Snow Series(MESS) covers Michigans lower peninsula above the 45th parallel as well as some special stops just outside the metro detroit area. MESS welcomes all Freestyle skiers and snowboarders. Helmets are required for all events and all USASA rules apply. All competitors under 18 must have a parent/guardian signature. A USASA competition membership is required, fees are $85  for an annual membership or $25 for a daily membership.  All competitors must join USASA in order to compete. Cost for Each Event is $25/event + lift ticket. We welcome all visitors from other series-please have your USASA membership card present at time of check in. Check the USASA web site for more information. HELMETS ARE REQUIRED FOR PRACTICE & COMPETITION  and a VALID Lift ticket must be purchased at the resort! Age groups for men and woman from under 7 to over 60. CHECK RESORT WEBSITES FOR LIFT TICKET PRICES. Great Products Raffle & Awards will follow immediately after the competition results are tabulated.

Slopestyle, Halfpipe, and Boarder/skiercross and Rail Jams are open to both snowboarders and skiers. Slalom and Giant Slalom are Snowboard specific events.  

We encourage all ages, adaptive action sports athletes, wounded warriors, all abilities.  These events are centered on FUN and skill-development in a relaxed competitive environment.

How do I Qualify for the Nationals?

TO QUALIFY FOR THE USASA 2014 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS at Copper Mountain, Colorado YOU MUST:

  • Be pre-qualified from last years national event (took 1st place at the Nationals 2013)
  • Take top overall points in your age division for a discipline--More Specific:
    Win the overall points champioship in your age division for a single discipline. This means you can qualify for National Championship in a single single discpline such as Half Pipe, or SlopeStyle, or Giant Salom, or Slalom, or BoarderCross®.
    All other National Championship spots will be awarded via the National Ranking System as described in the rulebook-check it out! 

More invites will go out based on your National Rankings-these are awarded by the USASA National Office by email only! Be sure your correct email is on file!
