USASA & AFP Bridge Competition Pipeline

on .

The United States of America Snowboard and Freeski Association (USASA) and the Association of Freeski Professionals (AFP) have combined forces to offer a seamless transition from entry-level USASA competitions into the AFP Junior and Global Ranking System. As a result of this partnership, the USASA will now offer approximately 50 AFP Bronze-Level, dual-sanctioned events. In addition, the USASA National Championships will carry AFP Silver-Level sanctioning for the Youth, Junior and Open Halfpipe and Slopestyle competitions.

“Focusing on the youth of freeskiing and the next generation of AFP World Tour Champions has been a focus of the AFP since our inception,” says AFP Executive Director Eric Zerrenner. “Through this partnership with USASA, we will be dual-sanctioning select events and incorporating those athletes into the AFP system—showing them a clear and simple development pathway as their freeskiing careers progress.”

By providing nationwide coverage through 32 regional series, the USASA has been able to positively influence the freeski pipeline and create opportunities for kids all across the country. Now, in addition to competing to qualify for the AFP Silver-Level USASA National Championships, athletes will be progressing regionally and competing within their age groups to move up through the ranks. Through this growth and development, and this new partnership, the AFP’s ranking system will work simultaneously to show athletes’ progress as they improve throughout their career.

"We are honored to support these AFP Bronze-Level events this year through the USASA,” says USASA Executive Director Mike Mallon. “The AFP has been extremely influential in the development of the sport and shares similar values with the USASA. Together we are able to strengthen the pipeline for all of freeskiing and continue to progress the sport."

Contest schedules will be confirmed and posted on the AFP and USASA’s websites on Friday, December 9th.

BKPRO Partners with USASA

on .

USASA is proud to announce its partnership with BKPRO as the official Online Coaching App of the USASA and an official sponsor of the 2017 USASA Nationals. BKPRO will be awarding two camps at USASA Nationals for standout performances, one for freeskiing and one for snowboarding, this March in Copper Mountain, CO.

BKPRO was founded by Bud Keene, head coach of the 2006 U.S. Olympic team where he coached gold medalists Shaun White and Hannah Teter on their way to Olympic success and beyond. Keene is stoked on the collaboration, “I’m thrilled to partner with USASA in supporting development and progression of grassroots snowboarding and freeskiing”.

Founder of the Northern Vermont Series, Keene has been an instrumental part of the coaching community since its inception, working with over 1000 kids at all levels. In addition to awarding two free sessions to BKPRO camps, Keene will also be offering a 10% discounted camp rate to any USASA member-athlete, as well as free access to the BKPRO Online Coaching app for all certified USASA coaches. Keene himself will present one one-hour long “Parenting An Action Sports Athlete” seminars to USASA Parent Members each week at the 2017 Nationals. BKPRO will also host one wax clinics for parents, athletes and coaches during snowboard and freeski weeks.

“We’re thrilled to connect our USASA members with BKPRO and to be able to shine the light on Bud’s progressive programs.” -Mike Mallon, USASA Executive Director.
