FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
The United States of America Snowboard Association Announces the United States Qualifiers for the World Snowboarding Championships in Oslo, Norway
South Lake Tahoe, CA – January 23rd, 2012 – The 2012 World Snowboarding Championships (WSC), will take place in Oslo, Norway from February 10th through 19th of this year. This event is the first international championships run entirely by snowboarders since 1999. The competition, which is the brainchild of both Ticket to Ride (TTR) and the World Snowboarding Federation (WSF), will showcase riders from all over the world. Each WSF member nation is entitled to qualify one male and one female in each halfpipe and slopestyle disciplines. The USASA is the member partner with the WSF, and is excited to announce that Scotty Lago and Maddy Schaffrick have qualified for the WSC in halfpipe, and Justin Morgan and Meghan Ginter have qualified for slopestyle.
Each member nation of the WSF sets their own criteria for qualifying into the WSC using national events. USASA determined the qualifying events this year to be the top finishers from the U.S. Snowboard Grand Prix in halfpipe (Copper, CO – December 5-10, 2011), and the Breckenridge Dew Tour (December 15-18, 2011) for slopestyle, and who also did not make the top 50 men or 30 women from the overall TTR WSC ranking list.
“All of these kids came up through the USASA and it’s cool for us to be able to give them a spot to what is sure to be one of the biggest contests of the season,” says Michael Mallon, USASA President.
As a grassroots organization, the USASA is proud to be able to represent the recreational and competitive interests of amateur snowboarding and freeskiing in the United States. USASA accomplishes this by supporting 33 series across the country that put on nearly 500 events throughout the season. Our goal is to promote safe, fair, and fun events while fostering a competitive spirit in the snowboard and freeski athletes. In addition, USASA emphasizes education for coaches and competitors, and promotes an overall healthy snowboard and ski lifestyle.
