Hailing from the Seacoast of New Hampshire and a proud member of the USASA New Hampshire Series, 13-year-old Callen "Bean" Hwang, had a big year at the 2022 National Championships earning a bronze in slopestyle and a 4th place rail jam finish.

So before the season started, we wanted to pick this up-and-comers' brain about three of her favorite things right now - trips to Big Snow, the USASA Nationals girls' snowboard scene and her local ice cream parlors.

  • 1) My favorite thing about Big Snow is that it’s a closer option for east coast kids. Also, it’s easy to shake the rust off in just a 2-hour sesh because you can get so, so, many laps!! And it’s a quicker trip for kids who are doing other sports like lacrosse, soccer, softball, baseball, and field hockey. Rather than going all the way to Switzerland or New Zealand.
  • 2) My favorite part about competing in USASA is getting to meet and ride with girls my age who are passionate about the same things. It’s also really cool coming from the NH series with one or no girls to compete against and then seeing a ton of girls at nationals!! The best part about Nationals 2022 was being able to hang out with some of the girls I only get to see once a year and getting to ride/ compete against them!!
  • 3) My favorite ice cream flavor is called Salty Sailor and it has salted caramel vanilla with chocolate-covered pretzels it’s from a local place called Lago’s. (Olympic bronze medalist and New Hampshire Series Alum Scotty Lago's uncle owns it!) And my fav desserts are a Macaron or Cannoli!!

Locking it on the down-flat-down for a 4th place finish in the women's 11-14 rail jam competition at National Championships 2022.

Look for Callen this winter at the #FuturesTour and competing in all the regional east coast events.
